The dB Snorkel will fit and further quiet your existing silencer.

The answer is “no.”

At this time, we do not plan to develop a dB Snorkel for 4-strokes. At the pro level of 4-stroke racing, exhaust temperature at the silencer can reach 1200 degrees Fahrenheit. – In other words, a high-performance 4-stroke with lean jetting is well beyond the heat resistance capability of the dB Snorkel.

The dB Snorkel is elastic and will deflect if there is contact with the caliper. It will be mounted so as to avoid contact with the brake line.

No.

Use it when you need it. It's easily removed and you'll get used to it. Either get new friends or toughen-up. Exhaust noise is a problem. The db Snorkel is a solution.

What you see is pure function. Adding a covering would add weight and cost.

Yes. Eventually the dB Snorkel's silicone rubber parts will "sweat" a little oil. The oil won't affect the rubber. Just spray it with something like Simple Green ® and wipe it with a shop rag.

The double-wall factory stock pipe & silencer of a KDX are very quiet.

Performance modification means replacing the stock system with an aftermarket expansion chamber and silencer, and opening-up the air box for freer intake air-flow.

The price is increased noise.

The dB Snorkel will help get some of that stealth back, but it will probably never be as quiet as the KDX factory stock system.

Noise is additive:

Because of (single-wall) expansion chamber and air box noise, the rider might not notice a dramatic noise reduction from the dB Snorkel. We have yet to hear of a KDX rider who gave up wearing ear plugs because he had a dB Snorkel.

Consider this:

The noise exiting the end of the aluminum silencer carries farther than the “ting” from the expansion chamber or the rattle from the air box.

It is the exhaust noise that your neighbor hears.

By using the dB Snorkel you will, in effect, increase your “noise buffer zone.” - And you will be doing it while maintaining exhaust flow.

The dB Snorkel will fit something as small as 8.25-inches in circumferences (2.6" diameter). (See this photo.) Anything smaller and the rubber will start to "gather" at the worm gear of the Band Clamp. You can always wrap the small silencer with some type of foam to make it larger. Be sure to verify clearance between the dB Snorkel and the rear tire.

No. It is not a “Forestry-Approved” spark-arrestor.

Consider adding a “Sparky” spark arrester by Cobra. The dB Snorkel works well with a Sparky.

There is only one type dB Snorkel. We designed it to fit as many types of aluminum silencers as possible.

Yes. It will stretch to fit silencers as large as 12” in circumference (3.8" diameter), and as small as 8.25-inches in circumferences (2.6" diameter).

Anything larger than 10 5/8” circumference and you will need to purchase 4.25” diameter gear clamps from your local hardware store.

Yes. The circumference of a Q Stealth is 12”. Fitting a dB Snorkel to it will be a stretch. You can see a picture of it in our Photo Gallery. You will need to purchase 4.25-inch diameter gear clamps from your local hardware store.

With our 2004 CR250, we ran a 4000 rpm free-rev (SAE J1287) 20-inch Test on a freshly-packed FMF Q Stealth without and with the dB Snorkel. The difference was only 0.4 dB(A) = 89.1-88.7dB(A).

Splitting hairs:
Because the exhaust was so quiet, the sound meter picked up a lot of engine noise. Further quieting a Stealthy 89.1 dB(A) hardly registers on the meter when the engine is making a 4000rpm free-rev racket.

So, the question is, would the dB Snorkel make a “significant” difference while the bike was in gear and under load? Maybe. - It is a matter of perception and we are going to leave it up to word-of-mouth.

We’ve heard mixed results. The best we can recommend is searching for answers on KTM Talk or Thumper Talk. Word has it that wrapping the expansion chamber with “header wrap” significantly reduces expansion chamber noise.

Feedback from a rider of a 2006 YZ250 told us the factory stock silencer’s plastic end cap can not take the heat. The dB Snorkel fits over the aluminum silencer and exposes the factory stock plastic end cap to the fires of Hades. – A task for which the factory stock plastic end cap was not designed (it will melt).

With a little extra effort, the dB Snorkel will fit the Answer Sneaker. Because the Sneaker is flat, the dB Snorkel will fit better if you:

• Place a shim (piece of rubber) under the Blackened Band Clamp in the location where the Sneaker is flat.
• Pre-form the Band Clamps so they follow the contour of the Sneaker.
